MySSP + Nurx

My SSP connects students with free, confidential emotional health and wellbeing support. In partnership with Nurx, MySSP offers a mental health medication management service that can be accessed in a few quick clicks.

Why Nurx?
Already a trusted source of online healthcare, Nurx has treated more than 1 million patients through telemedicine. Using the Nurx app or website students can connect with a licensed medical provider and share their symptoms and health history. If the medical provider makes a diagnosis of mild or moderate anxiety or depression or a related condition, they will create a personalized treatment plan for the student. Nurx medical providers prescribe medication (if medically appropriate) and follow up regularly to make sure treatment is working.

What We Treat

Anxiety & OCD

An anxiety disorder is characterized by excessive worry and anxiety that interferes with relationships, work or day-to-day life. If you have experienced anxiety for most days for 6 or more months, you may benefit from treatment.

We can also treat obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). OCD describes a condition in which people have uncontrollable recurring thoughts or behaviors that cause distress or interfere with life.

Mild & Moderate Depression

Depression is a mood disorder that makes you feel sad and/or disinterested in the world around you. Unlike normal sadness, which may come and go, depression lasts for at least two weeks (and often much longer), includes additional symptoms and interferes with your ability to function in everyday life.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Seasonal affective disorder is a form of depression marked by mood changes during the fall and winter months when there is less sunlight. Symptoms improve or disappear when the days get longer in the spring. SAD symptoms interfere with work, relationships and daily function.

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)

PMDD is an extreme form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) that causes severe and disruptive depression and/or anxiety in some people with periods in the days or weeks before their period starts, and symptoms usually go away within a couple of days after menstruation begins.

Postpartum & Menopause Depression

After a woman gives birth hormonal fluctuations may lead to persistent feelings or sadness or emptiness called postpartum depression. Similarly, the hormonal fluctuations that accompany menopause can lead to depression and treatment with an SSRI can be a helpful addition in the overall management of menopause (which also includes hormone replacement therapy, which Nurx does not prescribe).

Anxiety Treatment

After evaluating your health history and symptoms, a Nurx medical provider will create an anxiety treatment plan if medically appropriate. Anxiety disorders are often treated with a daily antidepressant, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRIs) or a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRIs) to stabilize the levels of neurotransmitters in your brain. You may also be prescribed medication to take when you experience acute anxiety or a panic attack. Please note: Anxiety treatment works best when combined with non-medical therapy such as talk therapy.

Depression Treatment

Your Nurx medical provider will create a depression treatment plan for you (if medically appropriate) after reviewing your health history and symptoms. Initial treatment is usually daily medication called a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), and Nurx prescribes and delivers a few different SSRIs as well as other medications (SNRIs, tricyclics, bupropion and trazodone). Individual factors determine which medication will be most effective and our medical provider will partner with you to get it right. Note: Treatment usually works best when combined with non-medical therapy such as talk therapy.
