Isibloom (Desogen)

As a combination birth control pill, Isibloom prevents pregnancy in several ways. It creates a thinner uterine wall to prevent the attachment of any fertilized eggs. This also contributes to lighter periods and lessened cramps. Isibloom also prevents ovulation (the movement of the egg from the ovary to the uterus) and blocks sperm by creating a thicker cervical mucus. When taken correctly, Isibloom is more than 90 percent effective at preventing pregnancy.

Isibloom is available at most pharmacies across the country; however, you do need a prescription from your doctor in order to get it. Once you have your prescription, your health insurance plan should cover Isibloom almost in its entirety. Tell your doctor if you have any known allergies before you start taking Isibloom, especially if you are allergic to any estrogens or progestins. Additionally, tell your doctor about any other medications you are on, since Isibloom may cancel it out or worsen the side effects. He or she will be able to recommend other types of birth control pills that won't interfere with your meds or treatments.

Every person is different and reacts to different treatment options in their own unique way. A few side effects that you may experience while taking Isibloom include nausea, breast tenderness, swelling of the feet or hands, bloating, changes in weight, and spotting in between periods.

While most side effects of Isibloom are minor, there are some major symptoms you should look out for. Seek medical attention immediately if you experience chest pain, difficulty breathing, blood clots, abdominal pain, dizziness, confusion, yellowing of the skin and eyes, and severe depression. Stop taking Isibloom until these symptoms are addressed.

Isibloom is effective only when taken every day and at the same time. Missing a day increases your chances of getting pregnant. Women who have missed two periods or one period and have not been taking Isibloom correctly may be pregnant. If this happens with you, stop taking Isibloom and consult your doctor. If you do need to stop taking Isibloom, switch to backup birth control like condoms to prevent pregnancy.

While Isibloom is not approved to directly treat acne, it may improve your acne symptoms once you start taking it. This is the result of better hormone regulation while on the pill.

Isibloom is meant to make your periods more regular, not stop them. You may experience lighter periods as a result of taking Isibloom, but it is unlikely that they will stop. If you unexpectedly miss a period while taking Isibloom, you may be pregnant.
