Nurtec works by changing the natural substances in your brain to help relieve current headaches or common symptoms of migraines, including nausea, pain, or vomiting. Take this pill as soon as you feel a migraine coming on to alleviate these symptoms. Nurtec can also be taken every other day as a preventative migraine treatment. There are eight pills in a blister pack. Remove one from the pack with dry hands and carefully peel back the foil to take out the pill.

It may be tempting to remove the pill by quickly popping it out of the tablet's foil. Don't do this, as this method may damage your pill and keep it from working properly. Once it's removed, place the pill under or over your tongue and let it quickly dissolve in your mouth. The pill and your saliva will work together to moisten the pill and allow you to easily swallow.

There isn't a regular dosage recommendation since you only need to take it when you feel a migraine occurring. Make sure you're not taking over one pill every day, as doctors don't believe it's safe to take over 75 milligrams in 24 hours. Keep all pills sealed in their pack and stored at room temperature.

Understanding Deductibles and Copays: Discount coupons and copay cards help people afford their medication. Recently, some health plans have decided to no longer count the use of copay cards toward deductibles and out of pocket maximums. Typically, a copay card decreases out of pocket costs for medication while applying the original retail cost toward an individual’s deductible. The medicine may also be dangerous to unborn babies, so let the doctor know if you're pregnant, are trying to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are hoping to breastfeed soon before receiving the prescription.

Though Nurtec provides positive side effects like reducing migraines, pain, and nausea, there are some adverse side effects that may come with it. Side effects are rare but may include allergic reactions like rashes, hives, and swelling of parts of your face like your tongue, throat, or lips. Some of these allergic reactions can be mild, but there's a rare chance they can be severe. Find emergency help the minute you see signs of an allergic reaction.

Nurtec has abnormal reactions to certain drugs like CYP3A4 inhibitors and CYP3A inducers, along with inhibitors of P-gp or BCRP. Let the doctor know if you're taking these so they can recommend an alternative or lower dosage amount. It's commonly suggested to avoid taking Nurtec with any of these drugs altogether. You may not realize that some of your medications may contain these inhibitors, so it's important to tell your doctor about them before they prescribe Nurtec to you.

Though it's not a medication, it's important to note that grapefruit or grapefruit juice can react strongly with Nurtec. Don't take more than one Nurtec pill within 48 hours of eating or drinking grapefruit, as it may reduce the effectiveness of the medication or you may experience negative side effects.

Alerting doctors of all your medications and allergies helps them understand if it's safe to take them with Nurtec. You should even tell the doctor about any vitamins, herbal supplements, or over-the-counter medications. If it turns out you can't take these medications with Nurtec, don't worry.
