• How does Nurx work?

  Nurx is a hassle-free way to access important health needs, including birth control, PrEP, and home tests for HPV and STIs — conveniently, confidentially, and affordably. Get started through our website or download the free Nurx app for iPhone or Android, then choose the prescription or tests you would like. (If you’re not sure which birth control prescription is right for you, we’ll help you find one).
  
  We’ll ask you to answer a few questions about your health, and enter your health insurance info (if you have insurance — it’s no problem if you don’t). Once you submit your order and pay $18 for the medical consultation a member of our provider team will review your health profile and, if medically appropriate, write you a prescription or order your tests. Everything will be delivered to your door for free in discreet packaging.
  
  We’ll be in touch to confirm everything, and you can message our medical providers any time with questions. The process takes as little as 3-5 business days once we receive your request, assuming you have submitted all of the information we need.

• Who is Nurx for?

  Anyone who needs birth control, PrEP, an HPV test, or STI testing can request them through Nurx. Make sure to check the list of states we are available in to see where we operate.

• How much does Nurx cost?

  Birth Control
  
  Anyone who requests a birth control prescription will be charged a $18 consultation fee. This includes unlimited messaging with our medical team about your birth control for one year so you can request prescription changes or ask questions, any time during that period. At this time, we do not submit claims to insurance for the medical consult fee. Patients will need to complete a new annual consultation, including any related fees, when a prescription is up for renewal.
  
  For those with health insurance, your prescription will be free in most cases as it will be covered by your health insurance. Insurance companies set the “copay” for prescriptions, and depending on your plan and the prescription, this will usually be $0. Please connect with your insurance company if you would like to learn more about your copay.
  
  For those without insurance, Nurx offers birth control brands that start at $15 per month. If you’d like a price estimate for a specific brand or type of birth control, please connect with our team at [email protected].
  
  Emergency Contraception
  
  Anyone who requests a prescription for emergency contraception will be charged a $15 consultation fee. This covers your online medical consultation by a Nurx medical provider and includes unlimited messaging with our medical team about your emergency contraception request. At this time, we do not submit claims to insurance for the medical consultation fee.

  PrEP
  
  Medical Consultation

  Anyone who requests a PrEP evaluation will be charged a $30 consultation fee. This covers your online medical consultation and review of your lab test results, and includes unlimited messaging about PrEP with our medical team so you can ask questions about your lab tests or medication any time. Patients will need to complete a new annual medical consultation in order to renew a prescription. Please note that at this time, we do not submit claims to insurance for the medical consult fee. Each time you order a new test kit and evaluation for renewal of your prescription you will be charged a $30 medical consultation fee.

  Medication

  Truvada for PrEP is an expensive medication, but we’re proud of the fact that 99% of Nurx PrEP patients pay $0 out-of-pocket for their medication.

  Our team will bill your insurance (if you choose to use it) and help you apply for payment assistance programs. We'll work to make testing as affordable as possible after available discounts. Our PrEP team is here to guide you. With insurance coverage: PrEP is often covered by insurance, but it’s good to make sure. Ask your insurance company whether PrEP for HIV prevention is covered under your plan, and what your copay will be for each month’s prescription. Without insurance coverage: We work with several payment assistance programs that subsidize some of the cost of PrEP – although not of lab testing.

  Home Test Kit

  Before you begin PrEP you must get lab tests to confirm that you are HIV negative and have healthy kidneys. You’ll re-do these tests every three months after beginning PrEP. Our preferred testing option is home-based lab testing through our partner lab, which is an option in every state we are available in except for New York. We are committed to providing a convenient and cost-effective home testing option for our PrEP patients.

  For those paying without insurance: $164 for comprehensive testing, which includes all of the necessary tests to get on PrEP + extra testing for additional sexually transmitted infections (STIs); OR $94 for basic testing which includes all of the testing necessary to get on and stay on PrEP. Both prices include free shipping both ways.

  For those paying with insurance: There is no cost for the test kit itself, which includes free shipping both ways. Once your tests have been processed by our partner lab, they will bill your insurance and you will be responsible for any out-of-pocket costs including copays and deductibles associated with your plan.

  PLEASE BE ADVISED: If you receive a bill, it will come directly from our lab partner. Any Explanation of Benefits from your insurance company regarding the lab services will not list us, but rather the partner lab or their affiliates.

  Non-Home Testing

  If you’d prefer not to do home testing you are welcome to have your labs done at a local lab such as LabCorp or Quest. Once you have submitted your request for PrEP, simply message us and tell us that you would like lab testing at the local lab you choose. Pricing at local labs is dependent on your insurance coverage. We recommend calling your insurance company in advance to confirm whether LabCorp or Quest is the in-network laboratory.

  If you contact your insurance company to clarify your coverage for laboratory testing, we’d recommend asking them the following questions:

  • Do I have to use an in-network lab for lab testing?
  • If yes: What laboratories are covered?
  • Is your partner lab covered?
  • Do I have a deductible for lab testing?

  If your insurance company asks, tell them these are the tests that will be ordered for PrEP: HIV 4th generation antibody/antigen test, serum creatinine, hepatitis B surface antigen (all required), and (optionally) syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia testing (rectal swab, throat swab, urine collection).   STI

  Anyone who requests an STI Home Test Kit will be charged a $30 consultation fee. The consultation fee provides patients with unlimited access to the Nurx medical team regarding their STI results. Please note that at this time, we do not submit claims to insurance for the medical consult fee.

  Home Test Kits

  Nurx is committed to making STI testing more affordable and accessible, regardless of whether you have health insurance.

  With health insurance, each test kit costs a $30 consultation, $29.50 service fee and any applicable copays or deductibles. The consultation fee provides patients with unlimited access to the Nurx medical team regarding their STI results.

  Without health insurance, Basics Covered costs $150; Healthy V costs $190, and Full Control costs $220. These prices include the kit, the lab testing, and shipping both ways. Patients will also pay a $14.50 service fee and $30 medical consultation, which includes unlimited access to a Nurx medical provider regarding their STI testing, results, and any follow-up care.

  If you pay with insurance, your out-of pocket-expense will depend on whether our partner lab is in-network with your insurance and on your specific plan’s coverage. Once you’ve submitted your samples, our partner lab will then bill your insurance for the lab services – and you will only be responsible for any out of pocket costs.

  *BLUECROSS PATIENTS PLEASE NOTE: BlueCross has changed their policies with our partner lab and is no longer processing patient claims in a way compatible with our telehealth platform for patients to exercise in-network benefits with the at-home testing kits.   HPV

  Anyone who requests a home HPV test will be charged a consultation fee. This covers your online medical consultation by a Nurx medical provider and includes unlimited messaging about your HPV test with our medical team for one year — so you can ask questions at any time during that period. Please note that at this time, we do not submit claims to insurance for the medical consult fee.

  Home Test Kit

  For those without health insurance, you will be charged $79 for the HPV test kit and lab work.

  For those with health insurance, you will be charged an initial $23 for the HPV test kit. Once your tests have been processed by our partner lab, they will bill your insurance and you will be responsible for any out-of-pocket costs (beyond the $23) including copays and deductibles associated with your plan.
