The science behind it

FACT 01

Regulates appetite

Compounded semaglutide acts like the body’s GLP-1 hormone to help regulate appetite, calorie absorption, and storage.

FACT 02

Delivers full-body benefits

After meals, GLP-1 is released in the
small intestine and travels through the body to affect receptors in the brain, stomach, pancreas, heart, and more.

FACT 03

Takes cues from lizards

Seriously! The Gila monster (a lizard in
the southwestern US) inspired drugs like semaglutide as this animal can survive without food for long periods of time.

Common questions§

  • What is a compounded GLP-1?

A compounded GLP-1 is custom-made medication that mimics the action of the GLP-1 hormone produced by the body and can help to reduce appetite, decrease overeating, and lose weight. Compounded GLP-1s are allowed by law but are not reviewed by the FDA for safety and effectiveness. All of Nurx’s compounded medications are prepared by our partner pharmacy.

  • How long do I need to take compounded semaglutide before I see weight loss?

It’s possible to see weight loss in the first month of treatment. However, because everyone responds differently to medications, it may take some time to find the dose that works best for you. Most people lose weight with continued treatment after a few months. We recommend aiming for 1-2 pound weight loss per week, but your healthcare provider can provide personalized guidance based on your individual response.

  • What else does GLP-1 do?

    • Helps control blood sugar by enhancing insulin secretion
    • Protects the heart, improves heart function, reduces blood pressure, and lowers risk for heart disease
    • Improves brain health, possibly by reducing inflammation and protecting nerve cells
    • Supports liver health including metabolic-associated fatty liver disease
    • Reduces inflammation
    • Helps with cholesterol (especially bad cholesterol)

  • What is a hormone?

A hormone is a chemical messenger that travels through the blood to reach different organs and tissues.

  • Do compounded GLP-1s have any known side effects?

The good news is that most side effects are temporary and improve over time as your body gets used to the medication. The most common side effects include:

    • Nausea
    • Diarrhea
    • Vomiting
    • Constipation
    • Stomach pain
    • Indigestion
    • Headache
    • Feeling dizzy, tired, or weak
    • Bloating
    • Burping
    • Gas
    • Heartburn
    • Runny nose or throat irritation

Serious side effects are rare but can and do occur. Be sure to contact your provider or seek medical health if you experience:
    • Severe stomach pain (stabbing or knifelike)
    • Lump or swelling in neck, trouble swallowing, or short of breath
    • Yellow eyes/skin
    • Clay colored stools
    • Severe diarrhea
    • Continuous vomiting
    • Vomiting with blood
    • Fainting
    • Chest pain
    • Difficulty Breathing

We are here to help you manage side effects. If you experience side effects, be sure to let your provider know as they can provide personalized guidance and educational content. They may even be able to prescribe treatment to help you manage these concerns.
For any serious or severe side effects, please seek in-person medical care.

  • What happens if I experience side effects?

To help mitigate any side effects you might experience from these medications, your provider will likely have you start with a low dose of treatment and gradually increase it over time to reach the target dose. If you do experience side effects, your provider can offer personalized guidance and resources to help. They also may prescribe treatment to help manage certain side effects if appropriate.

  • Can I use this medication if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

NO - Compounded semaglutide can harm a baby if taken during pregnancy. Stop taking compounded semaglutide as soon as you know you are pregnant. If you plan to get pregnant, stop taking compounded semaglutide at least 2 months before you start trying to conceive. This is important because it takes time for compounded semaglutide to leave your body. There is no data on the effects of compounded semaglutide in breast milk, so consider using other feeding methods while using these medications.

  • How will my GLP-1 medications be delivered?

As GLP-1 injectables need to be refrigerated, your medication will be mailed through overnight shipping, and will be sent in temperature-controlled packaging. Once our partner pharmacy processes your prescription, you will receive your tracking ID from Nurx and will also receive real-time shipping notifications from the mail carrier to track timing of delivery. Please be sure you are home at time of delivery. Note, medication cannot be delivered to CA or HI and also cannot be delivered to PO box addresses.

  • How does Nurx ensure the quality of compounded GLP-1 medications?

The quality of our compounded GLP-1 medications is of the utmost importance. Our base materials for compounded GLP-1s are sourced only from FDA-registered manufacturers. Each batch is pharmacist reviewed and third-party tested to ensure quality and safety standards are met. All batches receive a Certificate of Analysis (CoA), a document which confirms and summarizes all of the tests performed on a drug to confirm it meets required quality standards. All medication batches are tested for sterility, potency, pH, endotoxicity, and more.

  • What is a Certificate of Analysis (CoA)?

A Certificate of Analysis (CoA) is a document which confirms and summarizes all of the tests performed on a drug to confirm it meets required quality standards.

  • How much does the program cost?

The medical consult fee is a one time charge of $39. Patients will also be charged an ongoing care fee of $59/month. If you are prescribed compounded semaglutide, pricing starts at $199/month for lowest dose. Higher doses are $299/month.
